MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Thursday said there has been no discussion on the possible replacement of Vice President Sara Duterte amid reports that House Speaker Bojie Dy was being eyed to succeed her.
"We cannot anticipate. We cannot speculate because the defense [panel] has yet to present their evidence,” Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said.
"The impeachment court has not made any decision yet. Therefore, this is not being discussed," Castro said in a press briefing.
"So, out of fairness and respect for the position of the Vice President, this will not be discussed, and this is not being discussed. Let us let the process take its course," she said in Filipino.
The Senate impeachment court suspended proceedings to allow senators to focus on the proposed 2027 budget. The impeachment trial of Duterte will resume on Nov. 9, 2026.
