Internal strains within Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia resurfaced publicly as Machang Member of Parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal urged the party’s top leadership to make a clear and immediate decision on the status of its deputy president, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, who is currently serving a suspension from the party, criticised what he described as prolonged hesitation by Bersatu’s leadership over disciplinary action against Hamzah, who is also the opposition leader and the Larut MP. He argued that if the party genuinely intended to remove Hamzah, it should do so decisively rather than allowing speculation and internal manoeuvring to play out in public.
According to him, uncertainty over Hamzah’s position had lingered for years, creating confusion among party members and weakening the party’s credibility. He suggested that strong leadership required firm decisions rather than indirect actions or public posturing, especially when dealing with senior figures within the party hierarchy.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal also framed his remarks as part of a broader struggle to preserve what he described as the core principles of Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional, including the defence of religion, national identity and the country’s sovereignty. He indicated that any personal or political consequences he faced were acceptable if they stemmed from efforts to uphold those principles.
In the same remarks, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal took aim at Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, alleging that the party leader was now influenced by advisers and allies whom he viewed as lacking competence and direction. He questioned whether Bersatu’s leadership had compromised its dignity by engaging with political forces aligned with the Madani government, implying that such cooperation undermined the party’s original stance.
Speculation surrounding Hamzah’s future in Bersatu intensified in recent days following reports that he had been summoned before the party’s disciplinary board. The inquiry is linked to allegations of his involvement in disorder during Bersatu’s annual general meeting, as well as claims of hostility directed at Muhyiddin during the event.
Hamzah is scheduled to appear before the disciplinary board at Bersatu’s headquarters at noon on February 12, 2026, to provide his account and assist with the investigation. The outcome of that session is expected to have significant implications for the party’s leadership structure and internal unity.
The episode highlights growing divisions within Bersatu at a time when the party is attempting to consolidate its position as a key opposition force. How the leadership handles the matter involving Hamzah is likely to shape not only internal dynamics but also public perceptions of Bersatu’s coherence and decisiveness moving forward.
