Warisan open to Borneo Bloc but prioritises Sabah rights: Shafie

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan remains open to a broader Borneo Bloc, but any political cooperation must strictly safeguard Sabah’s rights and interests, said its president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pic).

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, the former Chief Minister said no final decision had been made regarding a Sabah Bloc or a wider alliance with Sarawak, as the party is still evaluating the best strategy to give Sabahans an effective voice in the upcoming general election.

He emphasised that any partnership must transcend seat distribution and ministerial positions to establish clear commitments on matters affecting the two Borneo states.

Shafie also dismissed as fabricated a purported letter claiming that Parti Warisan had withdrawn from the Unity Government, along with another fake letter alleging he had appealed for an individual's release from immigration detention.

He confirmed that the party secretary-general has been instructed to lodge a police report and that legal counsel has been directed to initiate civil action against those suspected of circulating the falsified documents.

Expressing concern over the potential of fabricated documents to mislead the public and undermine party confidence, Shafie called for strict enforcement of existing social media legislation.

Meanwhile, Warisan will hold its annual general assembly on Oct 30 and 31, followed by internal party elections at all levels in preparation for the forthcoming general election.
