Kota Kinabalu: Warisan Vice-president Datuk Junz Wong has handed over the party’s Kota Kinabalu division leadership to Api-Api Assemblyman Loi Kok Liang and assumed the chairmanship of the Putatan division.
The transition took effect immediately following Junz’s unanimous election as Warisan Putatan Division Chairman on Sunday.
Junz, who is also Tanjung Aru Assemblyman, described the move as part of deliberate succession planning while allowing him to take on a fresh frontline role in Putatan.
“Nearly 10 years building Kota Kinabalu… now it is time for the next generation to step forward. Leadership is not about holding on …it is about knowing when to pass the baton,” he said.
He said the Kota Kinabalu division was on solid ground, noting that Warisan captured Likas, Api-Api and Luyang in the 2025 State Election, alongside his own victory in Tanjung Aru.
Junz expressed confidence that Loi and the new team would build on the division’s foundation.
He said Putatan’s rapid transformation into a key commercial and industrial hub required focused, on-the-ground leadership.
“Tanjung Aru sits within Putatan. This is not a stranger’s task, it is a natural extension of the work I already do. But Putatan has its own distinct pulse, diverse communities, and growing pains that deserve full attention,” he said.
Junz said his priorities in Putatan included strengthening the grassroots machinery, deepening engagement across all communities and developing forward-looking solutions for a constituency undergoing rapid change.
“This is not just about winning an election. It is about building a presence that truly understands Putatan, serves its people consistently, and grows alongside them,” he said.
He will continue discharging his duties as Tanjung Aru Assemblyman while leading the Warisan Putatan division.
The newly-elected Putatan division office-bearers include deputy chairman Mohammad Firdaus Diun, vice-chairman Mohammad Affandi Arif and Women’s chief Noraini Salaman.
