SHAH ALAM – An elderly woman died just 20 hours after attending the funeral of her husband, leaving their family grieving the loss of both loved ones within a single day.
The couple, Alias Panjang, 84, and Roezah Abdul Hamid, 78, from Kampung Sentang, died last week, with Alias passing away at 7.56pm on Aug 26 and Roezah following about 20 hours later.
Their heartbreaking story was shared by their grandson, Haziq Azmin on Threads.
Haziq said his grandfather was buried at around 11am on Aug 27 after the family was informed by doctors that his health was critical.
“That morning, my grandmother watched my grandfather being placed in the grave and buried. She even watered my grandfather's grave and had time to chat with relatives after the burial was completed.
“When she kissed my grandfather's remains, she said "nanti kita jumpa ya bang" (we will meet soon, my dear). Little did we know my grandmother would leave so soon,” he said in the social media post.
Haziq said his grandmother had no known health problems before the incident and was still managing various matters related to her husband’s burial that morning.
However, at about 3.50pm, she suddenly became too weak to get up while preparing to take a bath.
He said an aunt who noticed that Roezah appeared different from usual then found her struggling to breathe before she passed away.
“It was completely unexpected. My grandmother did not have any illness and that morning she was still taking care of many things for my grandfather's burial.
“Even the people who prepared the grave could hardly believe it because usually the death of a spouse occurs two or three days after their partner’s passing, but grandma passed away less than 24 hours later,” he said.
Haziq said the deaths of his grandparents, who had cared for him since he was young, had left a deep impact on him and his family.
“May grandma and grandpa be placed among the faithful. We will meet there, okay grandma, grandpa,” he said.
The post also drew sympathy from netizens, who prayed for the couple to be placed among the faithful and for the bereaved family to be given strength in facing the loss of their two loved ones.
