Weak earthquake measuring 3.4 magnitude detected in Keningau

A WEAK earthquake measuring 3.4 in magnitude was reported in Keningau, Sabah, at 9.31 am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement said the earthquake was detected at coordinates 5.3 degrees North and 116.1 degrees East.

According to it, the epicentre of the earthquake was located about 10 kilometres (km) west of Keningau, at a depth of 10 km.

"The tremors were felt in Keningau, Sabah and surrounding areas," according to the statement.

MetMalaysia said it will continue to monitor the situation following the earthquake.

In the meantime, anyone who felt tremors due to the earthquake is asked to fill out a questionnaire provided by MetMalaysia to help authorities obtain information regarding the effects.
