Malaysia’s Wei Chong-Wooi Yik beat compatriots Wan Arif-Kang Khai Xing in straight games to reach the China Open second round.

NATIONAL men’s doubles new combination Man Wei Chong-Soh Wooi Yik got their China Open 2026 off to a convincing start as they marched to the second round in Jiangsu today.

Wei Chong-Wooi Yik made amends of their Japan Open 2026 first round exit as they thumped another new national duo Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Kang Khai Xing 21-12, 21-15 in 29 minutes during the opening round of Super 1000 tournament held in Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium.

Wei Chong-Wooi Yik will set up the second round clash against either Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh-Wang Chi Lin or Kakeru Kumagai-Hiroki Nishi of Japan.

In the meantime, national women’s singles player K. Letshanaa’s journey was cut short early as she suffered a straight set defeat to American shuttler Zhang Beiwen 16-21, 15-21.

Two other Malaysian representatives namely women’s doubles pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting and professional mixed doubles duo Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were also shown the exit by their respective opponents.

Xin Yee-Carmen let slip their first set 23-21 victory by falling to Hu Ling Fang-Jheng Yu Chieh of Taiwan 20-22, 14-21 while Tien Ci-Chiew Sien lost to third seeds from Denmark Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje 18-21, 13-21.
