When is the Community Shield and why is it not being played at Wembley?

  • The Community Shield 2026 will be played between Premier League winners Arsenal and FA Cup winners Manchester City on Sunday 16 August, with kick off at 3pm.
  • The game will be played at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, not at its usual venue of Wembley.
  • The venue change has emerged due to a scheduling conflict, with The Weeknd performing at Wembley between August 14 to 19.
  • It will be the first time since 2022 that the Community Shield will be played in Cardiff. It was also held there in 2012 and between 2001 to 2006 when Wembley Stadium was being rebuilt.
  • Last season’s Community Shield saw Crystal Palace beat Liverpool on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
