When we can expect more hot weather after a record-breaking summer

• Temperatures across the UK are set to rise again this week, reaching highs of 26C in London by Thursday after a wet end to August.
• The warm weather is expected to last the weekend, with London seeing highs of 26C and Manchester peaking at 24C on Sunday.
• Rain will sweep in from the Atlantic on Thursday evening, bringing showers to Scotland, Wales and the north of England.
• The Met Office long-range forecast predicts unsettled weather in early September, with “temperatures... likely to be near average, although brief warm or very warm spells are possible, especially in the south.”
• It follows the hottest UK summer on record since 1884, which saw a mean average seasonal temperature of 16.5C.
