AOX Malaysia Adventure Trophy Beckons in December
One moment the driver may be crawling through deep mud, where the tyres sink almost to the axles.
The next obstacle is a steep, rocky climb littered with loose stones that constantly shift beneath the wheels.
Then comes:
- Side slopes where the vehicle could roll
- Boulders and exposed rock shelves
- Almost impossible ascents
- Deep ruts carved by previous vehicles
- Mud holes filled with water
- Steep, scary descents
- Narrow tracks between trees
- Deep river crossings
- Fallen branches and hidden obstacles
- Sharp ridges that can lift one or more wheels
There is no time to admire the scenery.
Inside the 4WD, the steering wheel is fighting back. The engine is roaring.
Mud is flying across the windscreen.
The vehicle is bouncing, sliding and twisting.
Now, the driver has to look for the right line.
A few metres ahead, the jungle presents another obstacle.

A place where real challenges meet gritty drivers
This is where the AOX Malaysia Adventure Trophy 2026 comes alive.
From 12 to 19 December 2026, Dataran Cintawangsa in Kuala Krai, Kelantan, will become the staging ground for one of Malaysia's toughest 4x4 adventure competitions.
But the battle will be staged further out, at a remote place called Jeli, near rugged Gunung Reng in a remote area of Kelantan.
Here, competitors will be tested during a week of Special Stages, mud, rivers, winch wars, speed, technical challenges and non-stop adrenaline.
“The obstacles and challenges that they will be facing are going to be so compact,” AOX Malaysia Adventure Trophy 2026 organizing chairman Thomas Foo, who has been doing offroad and overland competitions and expeditions for more than 40 years, duly pointed out.
“It’s like practically facing a hurdle every minute.
“For those who like this kind of adventurous and gritty stuff, this is the place to be. This location in Kelantan can be considered as one of the last wild frontiers.”
In deep mud, too much throttle can simply turn the tyres into digging machines. On a steep climb, too much wheelspin can destroy traction. On a slippery descent, one wrong steering or braking movement can send a heavy vehicle sliding sideways.
Then there are the rocks.
The vehicle may climb over one boulder only to have another strike underneath.
This is not simply driving.
It is constant decision-making under pressure.

The Special Stage: Speed Meets Skill
The 4x4 SS Challenge Classes, running from 12 to 14 December, will put drivers and machines directly against the clock.
There are two classes: S1 – Super Open and S2 – Non-Hydraulic Steering
In a Special Stage, speed matters — but speed without judgement can be expensive.
A driver charging into a mud hole may lose more time getting stuck than the seconds gained by approaching it aggressively.
A driver attacking a rocky section too quickly risks mechanical damage.
The real skill lies in knowing when to accelerate, when to slow down and when to let the vehicle work its way through the terrain.
“Drivers will really have to think and strategize,” Thomas pointed out.
“It is always better to avoid or work your way around an obstacle rather than risk getting stuck there and having to dig yourself out of a hole.”
For S1, the top three positions carry prize money of RM3,000, RM1,500 and RM750, with prizes for fourth and fifth.
For S2, first, second and third receive RM2,000, RM1,000 and RM500, with prizes for fourth and fifth.
But there is another reward that cannot be measured in ringgit.
It is the satisfaction of reaching the end of a section that, moments earlier, looked almost impossible.

Seven days of adventure — two trucks working as one
The 4x4 TT Trophy Classes introduce a different kind of challenge.
This is not simply about one driver and one vehicle.
It is about two trucks working together as a team.
Competitors can enter:
T1 – 2 x Short Wheelbase (SWB)
T2 – 2 x Long Wheelbase (LWB)
T3 – 1 x SWB + 1 x LWB
Each class offers RM1,000 for first, RM600 for second and RM300 for third.
But when two vehicles enter the jungle together, success depends on more than individual driving ability.
One truck may find the perfect line through a mud hole.
Another may become stuck.
That is why the AOX Malaysia Adventure Trophy 2026 is ultimately a test not just of machines, but of knowledge, preparation, teamwork and judgement.
The Prize Beyond the Prize
For the two-truck teams, the ultimate objective is the Overall Ranking.
The Overall Winner will receive a Big Trophy, ComeUp 12,000 winch, camping equipment and sponsor prizes.
There is also a RM100 prize for each Team Task winner, adding another layer of competition throughout the event.
Every participating truck also receives a goodies pack containing a RM500 ComeUp 12,000-lb winch voucher, two T-shirts, two caps, two helmets for the Team Task, two safety vests, route guides, time cards, stationery, competition stickers, numbers and sponsor items.
Entry Costs: S1 SWB (2-Door) – RM 1000, S2 LWB (4-Door) – RM 800, T1 SWB (2-Door) – 2 x RM 400, T2 LWB (4-Door) – 2 x RM 400, T3 – Hybrid (SWB + LWB) – 2 x RM 400

The Jungle near Kuala Krai is Waiting
For seven days in December, Kuala Krai will become a meeting point for drivers who are prepared to take themselves and their machines beyond the familiar.
There will be mud.
There will be water.
There will be rocks.
There will be speed.
There will be recovery.
There will be mechanical failures and moments of doubt.
There will be laughter, frustration, exhaustion and exhilaration.
And somewhere deep in the Kelantan jungle, there will be a section that makes even an experienced driver stop, look ahead and wonder: "How are we going to get through that?"
That is precisely why they came.
The AOX Malaysia Adventure Trophy 2026 is not about finding the easiest road.
It is about finding out what happens when man, machine and jungle meet—and the road ahead disappears.
Limited slots are available.
