MANILA, Philippines — Orthopedic Surgeon Jose Pujalte Jr. is set “to advance the administration's efforts to strengthen the country's healthcare system" following his appointment as the new secretary of the Department of Health (DOH), according to the DOH in a statement.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. named Pujalte to succeed Teodoro Herbosa who resigned following a knee operation which would require him to undergo "extensive rehabilitation" for three to four months.
Pujalte joined the agency in 1991 and completed his orthopedic residency at the Philippine Orthopedic Center (POC) in 1994. In 2014, he served as Medical Center Chief II of the POC, leading the country's premier specialty hospitals in providing quality orthopedic care while strengthening hospital operations and patient services.
