(UPDATE) MANILA, Philippines — Health Secretary Ted Herbosa has resigned for health reasons and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accepted, Malacañang confirmed on Monday.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed a report earlier in the day that quoted a source as saying that Herbosa's decision to step down was due to a knee operation.
“My operation has made me realize that l also need to take care of myself. I will be on extensive rehabilitation for 3-4 months and I find it unfair that I will not be able to devote my full time and effort to important matters of DOH,” the source quoted Herbosa as telling DOH personnel.
Taking over from Herbosa is veteran orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jose Pujalte Jr.
