THE FATHER of Zara Qairina Mahathir told the Coroner’s Court on Monday that he was informed by the police that Zara’s mother allegedly ever lodged a police report against him regarding death threat.
Mahathir Mohd Hashim @ Marikin, 45, said that he came to know about the alleged police report after asking the police why he was asked weird questions during his statement recorded.
To a question from counsel Shahlan Jufri, Mahathir said that during his statement recorded for assisting into the case’s investigation, he was asked questions like how he had beaten Zara.
“I find it strange, the investigation was about how I hit Zara, the manner of hitting Zara and how I tortured her, that’s what I can recall.
“If regarding Zara’s problems in school, the police only said fell and still under investigation,” the 80th deponent said.
Shahlan, expressed shock after hearing what Mahathir had just testified.
Mahathir further said that he was called to come to police station for first time for seizure of his cellphone and second time for further investigation into this case.
To another question from Shahlan, the witness testified that during investigation when being asked those questions by the police, he said that “I never even flicked Zara’s ear”.
He said he found it was strange when he was asked those questions because in his assumption he will be asked about what happened to Zara in school.
To a question by counsel Prem Elmer Ganasan, Mahathir said that the alleged death threat went too far but he did not deny that he had marital problems with Noraidah.
