The Ajnala police have cracked the murder case of Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sarwan, who was found dead in fields at Lakhuwal village on Thursday. They arrested the deceased’s wife and her paramour on Saturday.

According to the police, Sarwan’s wife Nimmo, along with her paramour Manga, allegedly hatched a conspiracy and murdered Sukhwinder Singh with sharp-edged weapons.

Prior to the recovery of the body, the victim’s relative, Virsa Singh, had lodged a missing person complaint with the police.

After recovering the body, the police started an investigation and developed suspicion over Sarwan’s wife during the preliminary inquiry. Investigators are learnt to have obtained call records and details of conversations between her and Manga, which allegedly provided crucial leads in the case.

Sarwan’s family members told the police that Nimmo used to quarrel with Sukhwinder Singh over trivial issues and had gradually distanced herself from her husband while becoming close to Manga. They alleged that the two were involved in an illicit relationship.

According to the family, Sukhwinder had repeatedly urged his wife to mend her ways and end the relationship. Tensions between the couple had reportedly escalated in recent weeks.

The victim’s family alleged that Sukhwinder had become an obstacle to the relationship between the accused and that the duo ultimately plotted his murder. Police investigations have so far indicated that the crime was premeditated and carried out with sharp-edged weapons. Further investigations are underway.
