The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Solan police arrested 10 persons, including a woman, from a hotel near Chakki Mor on the Parwanoo-Solan highway on Saturday morning.

The police team raided the hotel following a tip-off that gambling involving coins and chips was being conducted on the premises.

After verifying the information, the SIU conducted the raid and caught 10 persons red-handed while allegedly betting on cards using cash in one of the rooms of the hotel.

The police also seized gambling chips and coins along with Rs 78,078 in cash from the accused.

SP Solan Sai Dattatreya Varma said those arrested had been identified as Naveen of Dera Bassi, Anup of Patiala, Mohan Singh of Sirmaur district, Vikram Singh of Dehradun, Tayde Ganesh of Buldhana in Maharashtra, presently residing in Panchkula, Sahil of Zirakpur, Sanju Ram of Panchkula, Mohit Mehta of Karnal, Karan of Mohali and Kanchan Singh of Delhi’s Rohini area.

A case has been registered against them under the Gambling Act at the Parwanoo police station. The accused are being interrogated and have also been booked under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The police are also verifying their criminal antecedents. Further investigation into the case is underway.
