Woman among seven held in drug raids

LAHAD DATU: Seven people including a woman were detained and 56.85 grams of Syabu were seized in two separate raids at Tungku and Felda Sahabat, here, on Saturday.

District Acting Police Chief, Supt. Jimmy Panyau said, the suspects were arrested following the Ops Tapis carried out by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division (JSJN) of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters.

“In the first raid at Kampung Tulibas Kecil, four men aged between 35 and 51 were detained after the police found 51.50 grams of substance believed to be Syabu in their possession.

All four suspects were also tested positive for taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine,” he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

According to Jimmy, three other suspects including the woman aged between 26 and 37 were detained following a raid at Felda Sahabat 1.

When arrested, the team discovered 5.35 grams of Syabu inside a cigarette’s box.

“The two men were tested positive for taking drugs while the woman tested negative.

“Investigation is carry out under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952,” he said.

Jimmy said, all the suspects were currently in their custody and will be remanded for further investigation.

He added that, Police are committed to combat drug-related activities and urged the public to work together by conveying any information related to the criminal activities.
