SEMPORNA: A local woman was arrested for allegedly selling smuggled cigarettes and hoarding subsidised cooking oil during a raid at Kampung Simunul, Thursday.
The operation was carried out by the 22nd Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) Task Force in collaboration with the Crime Investigation Division of the Semporna District Police Headquarters.
Sabah GOF Deputy Commander ACP Ahmad Radzi said the arrest followed intelligence gathering by the task force.
“During the raid, the team found a large quantity of various cigarette brands and several boxes of packeted cooking oil. A four-wheel drive (4WD) believed to be used for transporting the items was also seized,” he said.
The total value of the seized items was estimated at RM173,865.
The suspect and the confiscated goods were handed over to Semporna Police for further action under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
Ahmad Radzi said the success of the operation reflects the ongoing commitment of the GOF in curbing smuggling and misuse of subsidised goods in the region.
