
Ludhiana police have arrested a woman, who first befriended strangers over the phone and then, upon finding an opportunity, would enter their homes and steal. Tibba police arrested her and recovered a stolen licensed pistol, cartridges, cash and gold jewellery from her.
Giving details, ACP East Raj Kumar stated that FIR was registered at Tibba police station on May 18. Cash worth lakhs, gold jewellery, and a licensed weapon were stolen from the complainant’s home. The police examined CCTV footage from the area.
On May 23, the police arrested the accused woman, Suman Verma (wife of Ashok Kumar, resident of Maharana Pratap Nagar, Ludhiana). She was produced in court and taken on 3-day police remand.
During the remand, the police recovered almost all the stolen goods. On May 24, Rs 1,50,000, a 7.62 mm licensed pistol, 1 magazine and 5 cartridges were recovered. On May 26, Rs 1,30,000, 13 cartridges, gold jewellery , et.c were recovered.
Investigations have revealed that the accused woman used to befriend her victims by sweet-talking them over the phone and then go to their homes and commit the theft. Police believe that questioning this woman may solve other thefts in the city.
