Woman injured after car rams into KKIA departure hall area

Kota Kinabalu: A woman suffered minor injuries after the car she was driving accidentally entered the Level 3 departure hall area of Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) here on Friday afternoon.

The incident, which occurred at about 4.20pm, was captured on video and later circulated on social media.

City police chief ACP Shahrudin Mat Husain confirmed that the incident involved a local woman in her 60s.

He said initial investigations found that the driver had accidentally pressed the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to move forward and enter the departure hall area.

“The driver sustained minor injuries and the incident did not involve any members of the public,” he said when contacted.

No other injuries were reported.

Shahrudin advised motorists to exercise greater care while driving to prevent similar incidents.

Police said further details would be released if necessary.
