
A WOMAN was killed and her companion critically injured after the Perodua Myvi they were travelling in skidded off the road along Jalan Suka Menanti here on Tuesday night while being pursued by police.
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali said the incident occurred at about 8.20pm as officers were conducting Op Gempur in the area.
He said police had detected a vehicle behaving suspiciously and moved to pursue it before it was involved in an accident.
“As a result of the accident, a 33-year-old woman died at the scene, while another woman aged 37, who was driving the car, sustained serious injuries,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Syed Basri said further checks at the crash site led to the discovery of a plastic package containing a substance suspected to be heroin, with an estimated weight of 210 grammes.
Investigations revealed that the driver had 12 previous records related to narcotics cases, while the deceased woman had three prior records involving drug offences and one criminal record.
“The woman’s body was sent to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-mortem, while her seriously injured friend is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the involvement of both individuals in drug trafficking activities,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - February 4, 2026
