- After a goalless first half, it was Croatia who went in through a fine finish from Ivan Perisic, before Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first World Cup knockout goal to bring Portugal level.
- Then in the 94th minute, Goncalo Ramos popped up to head Portugal in front from a Rafael Leao cross – and there was still time for VAR to rule out a late Croatia penalty.
- Switzerland are also through after comfortably seeing off Algeria 2-0 – Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye scoring towards the start of each half.
- While Spain set up the clash with Portugal by cruising past Austria. A brace from Mikel Oyarzabal and a goal from Tottenham’s Pedro Porro won the game for the European champions.
