Kota Kinabalu: The State Government and related agencies are urged to provide basic water and electricity supplies at the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) housing in Kampung Lokawi.
Petagas Assemblyman Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari said this is necessary to meet the needs of the SMJ housing aid recipients who will soon reside in the area.
“Since the SMJ housing in the Petagas constituency is a new village, it lacks a proper network of basic amenities such as water and electricity.
“Therefore, it is hoped that the state government and the agencies involved can help resolve this issue to ensure that the goal of assisting the poor through the SMJ
Housing is achieved,” he said when met at the Breaking of Fast Ceremony with the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, at Masjid Nur Al-Jannah Kampung Petagas, here.
Awang said the two-hectare SMJ housing area could accommodate over 100 houses, which could help many recipients who do not have land in the constituency.
He also said the lack of housing sites is a common problem most aid recipients from low-income groups face.
“This is the dilemma many of these aid recipients face — they do not have land, let alone a site to build a house. So, how can we help develop their SMJ Houses?
“Through this village, we can help more of the poor so that the SMJ housing aid achieves its goal and provides benefits without any obstacles, especially in the Petagas constituency,” he stressed.
Earlier, Hajiji symbolically handed over the keys to SMJ houses to a recipient and presented cash assistance from the Petagas constituency to about 400 people during the event.
