Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand was impressed by Rodri for Manchester City's Community Shield final triumph on Sunday.

The Spaniard arrived from Atletico Madrid to become City 's new club-record signing and made his competitive debut at Wembley against Liverpool.

"The pace of the game is going to be a big difference from Spain and he's got to adjust to that. I thought today, yeah he got caught a couple of times, but his positional sense was the thing that stuck out," Ferdinand told BT Sport.

The way he got in areas to allow people to have space, dictating play and coming from behind the ball. He just propped things up.

In that position, it's not about looking pretty, it's about being effective and I thought today he was that."
