TAMBUNAN: The young boxing squad from Beriud Boxing Tambunan Club proved their ability after bringing home six medals through their participation in the 2nd Edition of the National Talent and Youth Boxing Championship and 2026 International Invitational held at Dewan MUC, Sibu, Sarawak recently.
The championship, held from July 27 to August 1, saw all six boxers representing Sabah successfully contributing medals in their respective categories. The impressive achievement also marked a 100 per cent success rate for the team, with an overall haul of one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
The team’s outstanding performance was led by 14-year-old boxer Nur Sharline Azman, who emerged champion in the Under-15 Women’s 63kg category to secure the team’s only gold medal.
Meanwhile, two other female boxers in the Under-15 category also recorded excellent results, with 13-year-old Marianne Marcellius winning a silver medal in the 50kg category, while 14-year-old Chelsie Reachel Ginadus contributed another silver in the 54kg category.
In the men’s competition, the strong performance continued with 14-year-old Daevison Victor winning a bronze medal in the Under-15, 54kg category.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Glay Oslay Ryan added another bronze medal in the Under-17, 57kg category, while 18-year-old Immenouwel Junas completed the team’s achievement by securing bronze in the Under-19, 51kg category.
The prestigious championship brought together young boxers from across Malaysia as well as international participants from Indonesia and Singapore.
The Beriud Boxing Tambunan team, led by Club Chairman Marcel Aegidius, also made the district proud as five of the six boxers representing the team are students of SM St. Martin Tambunan.
The meaningful achievement not only raised the name of the club and Tambunan district but also demonstrated the great potential of Sabah’s boxing scene at national and international levels.
The experience gained from competing in Sibu is expected to become an important platform for the young boxers to build confidence, discipline and gain valuable exposure in preparation for future competitions.
