
Bike-borne miscreants fired four rounds at a car driver late on Tuesday night in the Suchi Pind area near here.
One bullet hit past the neck of the car driver Anmol, leaving him seriously injured. Anmol is a resident of Ladhewali locality. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment, but due to his critical condition, he was referred to Amritsar Medical College.
The injured Anmol’s mother, Baljit Kaur, told the police that her son had an old rivalry with some youths from the area. She alleged that the accused had been keeping an eye on Anmol for the past few days. Because of this, Anmol had changed his gym timing from 6 pm to 9 pm.
According to Baljit Kaur, Anmol was returning home in his car from the gym at around 10 pm. When he reached near Suchi Pind, two youths on a motorcycle opened fire at him with pistols. After the firing, the accused fled the scene, causing panic in the area.
The family also stated that some time ago, a man named Balli had falsely implicated Anmol in the murder case of Mandeep in Suchi Pind. Baljit Kaur alleged that Balli, Babbu, Mukesh, Goli, and some other unidentified youths chased her son’s car, surrounded him, and then opened fire.
As soon as the police received information about the incident, Joint Commissioner Sandeep Sharma and DCP Manpreet Dhillon reached the spot. Police recovered two empty cartridges and a mobile phone from the scene. Joint Commissioner Sandeep Sharma said that statements from the victim’s family had been recorded and an investigation had begun. He assured that the accused would be arrested soon.
