Zahid Hamidi to meet Negeri Sembilan assemblymen tonight to seek a constitutional solution to the state’s political crisis
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will hold a special meeting tonight with assemblymen from the parties forming the Negeri Sembilan government to seek a solution to the political crisis in the state.
He said the meeting at Menara Dato’ Onn here would involve BN, PAS and Parti Wawasan Negara assemblymen to coordinate efforts and identify the best options in accordance with the state constitution and customary laws.
“It is to enable me to coordinate efforts, without any intention of interfering, but to find the best solution to the crisis currently being faced in Negeri Sembilan,” he told a press conference after officiating the 18th annual general assembly of Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party (Makkal Sakti) here today.
Also present was Makkal Sakti president Datuk Seri R.S. Thanenthiran.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said any steps taken must prioritise the interests of the people and comply with the rules of the state legislative assembly, as well as the constitution and customary laws of Negeri Sembilan.
The UMNO president also gave full mandate to Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim to seek the best solution, including by meeting the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, the Undang Yang Empat and Tunku Besar Tampin, as well as other leaders within the customary hierarchy.
On suggestions to declare a political emergency, Ahmad Zahid said there was no need for such a move as the security and public order situation in the state remained under control.
“I do not think it should head in that direction because there has been no disturbance to peace and security in Negeri Sembilan, and there is no need to even consider such a step.
“There are certainly better options,” he said.
