KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will meet 25 Negeri Sembilan state assemblymen tonight as efforts continue to find a way out of the political crisis in the state.
Zahid said the meeting would involve BN assemblymen as well as representatives from Pas and Wawasan, with the aim of coordinating the next steps and finding the best possible solution for the state.
“Tonight I will have a meeting with all 25 assemblymen from BN, Pas and Wawasan at this building.
“I want to coordinate and I have no intention of interfering, but rather to find the best way forward,” he told reporters.
Zahid was speaking at a press conference after attending the 18th annual general assembly of Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) on Sunday.
He said several options would be discussed during the meeting before a decision was made, taking into account the provisions of the Negri Sembilan State Constitution.
Zahid also said he had given Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim the mandate to seek the best possible solution, including meeting with Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, the Undang Yang Empat, Tunku Besar Tampin and other parties within the state's traditional hierarchy.
“I have given the Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar the mandate to find the best solution. What is important is that the people must be given priority. Their problems must be addressed and their concerns attended to.
“Whatever is happening and has happened, we will find a good solution at the state level. We do not want the situation to become more complicated,” he said.
The move comes after the appointments of 10 members of the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council (Exco) were terminated and gazetted, leaving the Menteri Besar as the only formally appointed member of the state administration.
Zahid said several measures were being taken to ensure the state government could continue functioning smoothly.
Tuanku Muhriz terminated the appointments of the 10 Exco members effective Sept 20 after they were found to have breached their oath of allegiance to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. - AWANI
