New national women’s doubles coach Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif aims to bridge the gap to top pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and produce another elite combination within two years.

NEW national women’s doubles coach Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif has set a clear two-year target to produce another world-class combination.

He aims to close the significant gap between the current national pairs and the established elite duo of Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah.

“From what I can see, our current women’s doubles shuttlers do have potential,” Zakry said after his first training session.

He expressed confidence that several rising pairs could develop into the next top combination.

“I’m confident that in a year or two, insya-Allah, we will have the next Pearly-Thinaah,” he added.

Zakry is among several new coaches appointed by the Badminton Association of Malaysia to strengthen the national squad’s lineup.

He admitted feeling thrilled to rejoin BAM after a 15-year absence.

His return, however, comes with a different set of responsibilities and a new coaching role.
