Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Friday that Russia could carry out a new wave of strikes, saying there was information pointing to an imminent, wide-scale assault.

In a post on his social media channels, he said Russia's tactics showed that Moscow was continuing to seek a purely military solution to the conflict.

He again called on Western partners to supply air defence weapons specifically against ballistic missiles.

The Russian military only at the weekend launched a major assault on Ukraine and especially its capital Kiev, also using the new Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile. Moscow said it would carry out further attacks on Kiev.

Zelensky said that he had spoken to Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker about Russia's attack preparations.
