MANILA, Philippines — Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri backed a proposed ban on social media use among children following the recent school shooting incident in Zamboanga City.
In a social media post, Zubiri said young people are increasingly exposed to violent content and addictive platforms.
"If a child can watch, play, and be exposed to violence for hours every day, we cannot pretend that it has no effect," Zubiri said.
The senator said that rapid changes in technology and children’s digital habits require policymakers to reconsider existing laws and regulations.
"The times have changed, and our laws must catch up. I support a serious social media ban for children," he added.
