ISKANDAR PUTERI - Barisan Nasional (BN) took an unofficial lead in 12 state assembly seats during the Johor state election on March 12, including the Machap seat contested by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

By 8:30 pm, the Election Commission's unofficial tallies showed BN leading or securing wins in Machap, Kukup, Sedili, Bekok, Tenggaroh, Benut, Pekan Nenas, Penawar, Pasir Raja, Bukit Permai, Yong Peng, and Rengit. Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (PH) claimed one state seat in Bentayan.

The early victories for BN highlighted the success of fresh faces, including Mohd Israk Abdullah in Kukup and Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan in Benut.

Incumbent assemblymen also successfully retained their seats for the coalition. These included Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor in Bukit Permai, Ling Tian Soon in Yong Peng, Muszaide Makmor in Sedili, Tan Chong in Bekok, Tan Eng Meng in Pekan Nanas, and Fauziah Misri in Penawar.

Furthermore, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba won the Pasir Raja seat, while Youzaimi Yusof secured Tenggaroh after the constituency was transferred from MIC to Umno. Zaidi Japar, the BN candidate contesting the highly competitive Rengit hot seat, also achieved victory.
