As many as 10 UKG students were injured after the wall of an under-construction building adjacent to a private school suddenly collapsed onto the school’s roof during a severe thunderstorm in Bharat Colony, Faridabad on Saturday.

The children sitting inside the classroom were hit by falling debris. All the injured students were admitted to BK Hospital, where four children sustained serious injuries, while the others were discharged after first aid.

A team from Kheripul Police Station has launched an investigation after registering a case against the owner of the under-construction building.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 9 am at Hans Memorial School in Bharat Colony. Summer vacation for students was scheduled to begin from Monday, and special classes were reportedly being held on Saturday to distribute holiday homework.

Around 13 students were present in the UKG classroom when a strong storm hit the area, causing the wall of the adjoining building to collapse onto the school structure.

Panic broke out immediately after the incident. School staff launched rescue operations and managed to pull the children out from under the debris. Four children suffered serious injuries, while six others sustained minor injuries.

All injured students were rushed to BK Hospital for treatment. After receiving information about the incident, family members of the children reached the school and hospital.

Police teams also reached the spot and inspected the site. The school building was evacuated immediately after the incident.

According to the police, four students identified as Deepti, Divya, Meera and Nandu sustained serious head injuries, while the remaining children suffered minor injuries. The injured students are between six and seven years old.

Police said a man identified as Deepanshu was constructing a four-storey building and had allegedly erected a four-inch wall without pillars. The school management had reportedly requested him several times to adopt proper safety measures.

“All the children are currently out of danger. Based on the complaint filed by the school principal, an FIR has been registered against the owner of the under-construction building and an investigation has been launched. We are also verifying whether the construction had the required permissions. Action will be taken as per law,” a senior police officer said.
