Ten UKG students were injured after a wall of an under-construction building collapsed onto the roof of a private school during a severe thunderstorm in Bharat Colony, Faridabad, on Saturday.
Students sitting inside the classroom were hit by debris. All injured children were admitted to BK Hospital. Four students suffered serious injuries, while the others were discharged after first aid. A team from Kheripul police station has registered a case against the building owner and started an investigation.
According to the police, the incident took place around 9 am at Hans Memorial School in Bharat Colony. Summer vacation for students begins on Monday. School authorities had reportedly called students on Saturday to distribute holiday homework. Around 13 students were attending the UKG class when strong winds struck the area and the adjoining wall collapsed onto the school roof.
Panic spread through the school after the incident. Staff members launched rescue operations and pulled the children out from under the debris. Four children suffered serious injuries, while six others sustained minor injuries.
All injured students were taken to BK Hospital for treatment. Family members rushed to the school and hospital after learning about the incident. Police reached the spot, inspected the site and evacuated the school building.
Police identified the seriously injured students as Deepti, Divya, Meera and Nandu, all aged between six and seven years. They suffered head injuries in the incident.
According to the police, a man identified as Deepanshu was constructing a four-storey house next to the school. He had allegedly raised a four-inch wall without support pillars. The school management had reportedly raised safety concerns several times.
“All children are out of danger. Based on the complaint filed by the school principal, an FIR has been registered against the owner of the under-construction building. We are also verifying whether the construction had the required permissions. Action will be taken as per law,” said a senior police officer.
