SHAH ALAM - National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers earning RM2,500 and below a month will be eligible for a repayment deferment in 2027.
This benefits more than 400,000 borrowers through a series of measures announced under 2027 Budget.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said borrowers earning between RM2,500 and RM3,000 monthly would only be required to make minimum repayments of RM50.
“The government agrees to provide a repayment deferment for borrowers earning up to RM2,500 a month in 2027,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in Parliament, today.
The Prime Minister said borrowers who had no outstanding arrears and made their repayments regularly would receive a 10 per cent discount.
The government would also provide tax deductions for employers who repaid PTPTN loans on behalf of their employees.
The incentive would cover repayments made from Jan 1, 2027, to Dec 31, 2028.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education Ministry has been allocated RM19.1 billion, with RM800 million set aside to upgrade facilities such as lecture halls and student accommodation, as well as replace outdated equipment.
"The government also welcomes contributions from the public, alumni and the corporate sector to public universities," he said.
Contributions would qualify for income tax deductions of up to 10 per cent of aggregate income.
