MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems – northeast monsoon (‘amihan’), shear line, and easterlies – continue to prevail and affect the weather conditions in the entire archipelago in the coming days, the state-run weather agency said on Monday.
Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that it has not spotted any low-pressure area inside or outside the country's area of responsibility.
However, she said scattered and isolated light rains would be likely in most parts of the country due to three weather systems, with the shear line (convergence of hot and cold air) affecting Cagayan and Isabela, possibly causing flash floods or landslides due to its moderate to at times heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the easterlies – winds that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry warm, humid weather – would prevail over Aurora and Quezon, the national weather bureau said.
Over Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands, amihan – cool and dry winds from Siberia and China – will bring partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains within the next 24 hours.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, due to the easterlies, it added.
