TUARAN MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau has called for clarity on the amount owed to Sabah under its 40 per cent special grant entitlement and the timeline for payment.
He said this followed a Finance Ministry reply in the Dewan Rakyat estimating that revenue collected in Sabah from 2022 to 2024 was about RM10 billion annually.
“If the Federal Government’s net revenue collection from Sabah is about RM10 billion a year, then 40 per cent of that amounts to RM4 billion annually.
“The question on the minds of Sabahans is, what other reasons or issues is the Federal Government using to continue delaying payment of Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement?” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the ministry’s reply, the estimated revenue included the five percent cash payment from petroleum revenue, as well as other direct and indirect tax revenue.
However, the reply did not provide a breakdown of revenue for each year or explain the method used to calculate the amount.
Madius said Sabahans needed a clear explanation of how the special grant entitlement was calculated, including the actual amount payable and the timeframe for its implementation.
He also questioned the continued use of reasons to defer payment, noting that the 40pc special grant remained a key issue in financial relations between the Federal Government and Sabah.
