Kota Kinabalu: Muda Sabah called for the 40 per cent salary increment for Sabah assemblymen to be channelled to their Assemblyman budget.
Its Chairman Amos Thien believes the additional funds should go to the Assemblyman budget as expenses from the allocation is reported to the respective town council.
He said if the increment goes to Adun’s salary, there is no level of accountability as expenses from salary are not reported such as with the Assemblyman’s budget allocation.
“With every expense from the official budget accounted for, there is a level of accountability. But if the increment goes to the salaries of assemblymen, it is more difficult to see where the money goes afterwards. This is something that voters have a right to know,” he said in a statement Monday.
Muda Sabah also condemned the statements made by Kuamat Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah and Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob at the recent State Assembly sitting.
During the session, he said Masiung was quoted as saying Assemblymen are viewed as “ATM machines,” to which Yusof agreed.
