5.2 earthquake jolts Mindanao

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Saturday detected a magnitude 5.2 earthquake near the town of General Salipada K. Pendatun in Maguindanao del Sur at 7:25 p.m.

In a bulletin posted on its website, the quake is tectonic, with a 10-kilometer depth of focus.

Damage and aftershocks are expected, according to the agency.

The following areas are under the following intensities: Intensity IV in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat; Intensity III in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat; and Intensity II in Magpet, Kidapawan City; and Antipas in Cotabato.

Meanwhile, instrumental intensities are reported in the following areas:

Intensity V - M'lang, Cotabato; President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat

Intensity IV - President Roxas and Carmen, Cotabato; Malungon, Sarangani; Tampakan, Koronadal City, Tupi, Banga, and Tantangan, South Cotabato; Isulan, Esperanza, and Columbio, Sultan Kudarat

Intensity III - Magpet, Cotabato; Digos City and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Santa Maria, Davao Occidental; Maitum, Sarangani; Santo Niño and Surallah, South Cotabato; Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat
