
Kota Kinabalu: Some 550 students from 82 schools are currently taking part in the 55th Sabah School Sports Council Kota Kinabalu District Athletics Championship hosted by SM Lok Yuk at the Likas Stadium.
Kota Kinabalu District Education Department officer Suhaimi Matshah said they are hoping to select the best available athletes through the five-day competition to represent the district at next month’s State level championship to be held in Keningau.
The opening ceremony officiated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Chan Foong Hin was held at the stadium on Monday evening.
He said in his speech that sports play a role as one of the mechanisms to strengthen the relationship between schools, teachers, students, parents and society.

He also reminded the students that competition is not just about winning, but it also involves the importance of life values such as discipline, cooperation, perseverance, and mental toughness to prepare them in facing various life’s challenges ahead.
