LABUAN:

Despite a slight setback due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the developer of a RM101.6-million project to enable people in the B40 group to own a dwelling is bent on completing it on schedule.

The People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Jalan Batu Arang, Tanjung Aru, is facing a two per cent delay in the schedule due to a shortage of skilled workers, said project manager Norsalmiza Mohammad of RD Resources Sdn Bhd.

A number of the migrant skilled workers returned to their country of origin during the Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed earlier this year to check the spread of Covid-19, she said when briefing Senator Datuk Bashir Alias of Labuan at the project site.

“Our operation is not running full swing at this moment, but we are doing our best to complete the project on schedule,” she told Bernama.

The 500 units of apartments in two 13-storey blocks, construction of which began in January 2018, are scheduled for completion in April 2021. Each unit is 700.19 sq ft in size and has three rooms.

The facility comprises basic amenities such as a community hall, surau, kindergarten, shophouses and a children’s playground.

Bashir said five apartment units will be reserved for people with disabilities.

He said the application for the units is open until December,” he said.
