Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old small café operator charged with causing hurt to a man, was released on bail.Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim who sat as a Magistrate, had granted Abdul Karim’s application for bail and offered him bail of RM1,500 in two local sureties. The court also ordered Abdul to report to the nearest police station twice a month and reminded to not tampering with the prosecution witnesses.

The court maintained Oct 5 as the mention date of his case. On Sept 21, Abdul was charged in Tuaran Magistrate’s Court but no bail was offered to him. Abdul claimed trial to assaulting one Imman Nurasan by using a ring at 2.30pm on Aug 8 this year at a room of a house in Taman Telipok Ria, near here. The offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or with fine, or with whipping, or with any two of such punishment, on conviction.

Earlier, counsel Amli Nohin who represented Abdul, applied for the bail saying that his client is a voter in his district and wished to execute his right under the constitution to vote on Sept 26. Amli further submitted that Abdul has a wife, three children and a sick mother to look after. According to Amli, his client had voluntarily surrendered himself to the police on Sept 8 this year. Prosecuting Officer Lim Swee Beng leave it to the court’s discretion.
