Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Women’s Advisory Council (MPWS) Chairperson Datuk Noni J. Said described Noorliza Awang Alip’s elevation to Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City as a landmark appointment for women in Sabah.“We (MPWS) take great pride in her appointment. We thank the State Government for having considered a woman mayor based on her merits, from among the ranks in Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK). “What is advantageous is that Noorliza has acquired the ropes of the trade from within DBKK. I am confident that her legal background and vast administrative experience would stand her in good stead.

“Since the establishment of MPWS in 1988, we have been consistent in making our recommendations to the Government for credible appointments of women to be permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, district officers, directors of state departments, chairpersons and board of directors (BOD) of statutory bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs), among other positions. On the record, our relentless effort has borne fruit as many Sabah women have excelled in the proverbial ‘breaking the glass ceiling’ in their careers,” she said.
