RM10m spent to help local traders: Joachim

Kota Kinabalu: A total of RM10 million had been spent to help local entrepreneurs under the Small and Medium Industry Aid (Baiks), said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam (pic). Gunsalam who is also Industrial Development Minister said the grant is meant to assist entrepreneurs to buy machines and other equipment as well as product packaging.

“Entrepreneurs are able to enhance their production capability and maintain their existing workers apart from hiring new ones,” he said during question time.

“To date, some 1,070 entrepreneurs benefitted from this programme.”

The programme was one of the measures taken by the State Government to overcome the loss of employment and source of income issues among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
