Kota Kinabalu: Pintasan Assemblyman Fairuz Renddan (pic) urged the government through its several ministries to strengthen cooperation in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. He said the Home Ministry, National Security Council, Health Ministry and State Health Department must continue their cooperation to handle the issue. Fairuz further said the Covid-19 pandemic had brought various problems to the people all over the world, including Sabah. “Covid-19 was almost successfully controlled but due the influx of illegal immigrants who entered the State through the rat trail, the pandemic resurfaced, and affected the economy of the people as well as bringing many problems.

“The illegal immigrants threatened the safety and health of our people because they bring Covid-19 to our State and because of this, the borders need to be tightened and enforcement doubled in order to ensure the health and the safety of our people,” he said. Fairuz said enforcement at entry points needs to be doubled, including in temporary detention centres because illegal immigrants are remanded at the centre had the potential to spread the Covid-19 virus to those who came into contact with them. Fairuz also urged the authorities to take stern action on anyone who ignore the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the transmission of Covid-19.

“Take action against perpetrators who try to take lightly the effort of the government in dealing with the epidemic,” added.
