Girl, 10, dies in Tawau lorry-motorbike collision

TAWAU: A 10-year-old female student died, while her brother, 15, was seriously injured when their motorcycle was hit by a oil palm tanker in an accident at the Kuala Merotai junction, Kg Iban Jalan Kalabakan-Tawau on Sunday.

District police chief, ACP Peter Umbuas, said the victim was pronounced dead at the site of the incident at 11am by the paramedic team, while the lorry driver, 39, escaped unhurt.

“The victim’s brother, who was riding the motorcycle, was rushed to Tawau Hospital for further treatment due to severe injuries,” he said.

Initial investigation at the scene found that the accident occurred when the lorry driver passed through the area.
