Association members urged to provide awareness on consumer rights

Kota Kinabalu: Appointed Assemblywoman Datuk Amisah Yassin (pic) recently called on all members of the consumer association in Ranau to make use of the entity as a platform for its struggle.

She said association members such as the Sabah West Coast Wise Consumers Association (WCAS-Wise Consumer Association Sabah) should create activities to provide awareness on consumer rights and how to become smart consumers.

“Through consumer associations, members can improve their knowledge and skills to be smart consumers,” she said.

Amisah added that consumer associations can create a responsible, intelligent, sensitive, committed and proactive members to inform the community about consumer issues.

She was this after receiving a contribution of RM3,000 from the Sabah West Coast Wise Consumers Association President David Chan for the distribution of food items to those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

She also reminded the association to always be aware of current developments on consumer issues such as get-rich-quick schemes and scams, among others.

“Members of the association need to update their legal knowledge especially on protection of consumer rights.

“The association is not the enemy of traders but as an intermediary between traders and consumers to a win-win situation, honest traders and smart consumers,” she said.
