Two repeat drug offenders get 5 years

Kota Kinabalu: Two men were jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane each for repeated drug abuse.

Ali Rasid Saddik and Zawawih Piling @ Eiling pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, to the charge against them.

Ali was found to have used illegal drugs on Aug 3, 2020 after his urine was tested positive at the police station here.

Zawawih was found to have traces of narcotics in his urine on Sept 29, 2021 after being tested at the Beaufort police station.

Both of them have several conviction records for narcotics abuse.

The offence under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction. The court ordered the duo to be placed under police supervision for two years after serving their sentence. They were ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests.
