Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 17.4 per cent of the 258 new Covid-19 cases in Sabah on Tuesday involved youngsters unable to receive the vaccine as yet.
Around 70pc of new cases per day involve those who have been completely vaccinated, citing a 97-case increase from Monday’s 161 instances.
It gives the appearance that many believe they are resistant to infection, according to him.
“Not only is this notion incorrect, but they are also unaware that they can infect their children at home who are not yet eligible for vaccination,” he added.
“Keep in mind that parents can be viral carriers and infect their offspring at a young age,” he said.
Meanwhile, 10 districts saw double-digit rates, with Penampang having the most cases with 49.
There were 32 instances in Kota Kinabalu, 22 in Tuaran and 19 in Kota Marudu and Kota Belud, respectively.
Penampang had the highest number of new cases (30) among the 27 districts in the state.
On Tuesday, 12 districts registered one-digit cases, while the remaining five districts did not record any new cases.
According to Masidi, 252 of the 258 cases on Tuesday are in Category One or Two. There are no cases in Category Three, three cases in Category Four, and one case in Category Five.
The Sabah Health Department is still investigating two instances.
Three Covid-19 fatalities were reported in Sabah on Tuesday, in Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, and Tawau.
A total of 260 Covid-19 patients have been released, with 382 remaining in hospitals and 330 detained in low-risk quarantine centres and one in a private facility.
Thirty-four patients are in Intensive Care, with 11 requiring ventilator support.
