Kota Kinabalu: Sabah recorded 3,735 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday with nearly 1,000 cases stemming from backlogs, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“Kota Kinabalu recorded the highest number of backlogs which contributed greatly to the caseload. Out of 1,039 cases recorded in Kota Kinabalu, only 19 occurred in the last 24 hours.

“A total of 296 cases were backlogs from two to three days ago and 724 from more than four days ago, of which 89 were overdue for more than 12 days,” he said in a statement, Saturday.

Despite the dip in the caseload, Masidi said sporadic infections remain high at 66.45 per cent, which indicate that cases in the future can rise sharply.

He said of the 3,735 caseload, 464 involved children aged below 11, of which 216 were aged below five.

Kota Kinabalu continued to top the list with 1,039 cases, followed by Putatan (386), Penampang (287), Tuaran (286), Papar (261), Beaufort (214), Tawau (158), Sandakan (156), Keningau (151) and Kota Belud (138).

Nine deaths were recorded, two each in Tuaran, Tawau and Papar and one each in Kota Belud, Sandakan and Keningau. No new clusters were identified.

Masidi said a majority of cases are mild, with 3,706 out of 3,735 cases being category one and two infections, which is 99.22 per cent.

“There are 10 cases in category three, 15 in category four and four in category five,” he said.

Some 4,402 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 2,029 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 14,394 individuals were vaccinated on Feb 25, of which 12,604 were adults while 67 were teenagers and 2,263 were children.

As of Feb 25, he said a total of 2,412,922 individuals have completed both doses, of which 77.28 per cent were adults, while 2,496,134 have gotten their first dose, of which 78 per cent were adults.

Masidi added that a total of 338,632 teenagers have received their first dose, while 313,603 have completed both doses, which is 73.58 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 38,647 children have received their first dose.
