65.4pc of Friday’s 4,256 cases sporadic infections

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun reminded the public to be vigilant in public places as Sabah’s sporadic transmissions within the community remained high at 65.48 per cent on Friday.

“It is the main contributor of cases in 20 out of 27 districts in Sabah. Once again, the people are reminded to abide by all standard operating procedures (SOPs) at all times when being among people, especially in congested public places,” he said in a statement, Friday.

Sabah’s cases dipped to 4,256 Friday from 4,892 the day earlier, while eight deaths were recorded, two each in Kota Kinabalu and Kota Belud, and one each in Lahad Datu, Putatan, Tawau and Keningau.

“A total of 517 cases on Friday involved children aged below 11, of which 237 were below five,” said Masidi.

He said Kota Kinabalu topped the caseload with 1,241 cases, followed by Papar (370), Putatan (363), Penampang (345), Tuaran (308), Kota Belud (186), Tawau (165), Sandakan (157), Keningau (144), Beaufort (126), Lahad Datu (113) and Kota Marudu (100).

“A large number of cases in districts such as Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar and Putatan are backlogs that were only registered in the last 24 hours,” Masidi explained.

No new clusters were identified. The Jalan Binunuk Cluster involving Beaufort and Papar ended on Friday, while there are 41 active clusters in Sabah to date.

Masidi said a majority of cases are mild, with 4,237 out of 4,246 cases being category one and two infections, which is 99.56 per cent.

“There are nine cases in category three, four in category four and six in category five,” he said.

Some 3,437 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 2,276 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 12,216 individuals were vaccinated on Feb 25, of which 10,399 were adults while 48 were teenagers and 1,769 were children.

As of Feb 24, he said a total of 2,412,819 individuals have completed both doses, of which 77.27 per cent were adults, while 2,493,758 have gotten their first dose, of which 77.27 per cent were adults.

Masidi added that a total of 338,591 teenagers have received their first dose, while 313,577 have completed both doses, which is 73.57 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 36,382 children have received their first dose.
